pure REBELLION CONFERENCE
Sunday, March 25
At
Castine Church of the Brethren
624 US Rt. 127, Arcanum, Ohio
The purpose of Pure Rebellion is twofold:
To call to Jr. and Sr. High guys and girls to rebel against society's norms, providing an alternative look at real life issues for teens related to purity.
To equip parents to raise up a generation of students that live out holiness as they engage with their culture
Our approach to the topic purity is to lay a foundation of understanding why living lives of holiness and purity is important. We aren't interested in just getting students to make statements or to sign commitment cards. God is holy, and as His followers, we are called to lives of holiness and purity for His glory and our good. We also understand there is tremendous need for reconciliation, restoration, and grace when the lines of holiness and purity are crossed. And so, our intent is to provide an environment that promotes biblical understanding and dialog between the presenters, students, and adults.
In addition, we recognize that what students face in our sexualized culture today is more alluring and available very early in their lives, creating opportunity for temptation and evil, bondage and guilt, and eventually separation from God. Because of this, we believe it is equally important for parents, mentors, and youth workers to equipped to help their children and students navigate through the challenges they face on a daily basis.
Costs
We have worked to provide a quality conference for both students and adults that is affordable for families. And so, we have set the registration for both students and adults at $10 per person for online registration by March 11, 2012. The cost for walk in registration the day of the event is $15 per person. In addition, there is a $5 discount for families with 4 registrants, and you will be able to attend the conference for $35.
We want to make sure that every student, parent, mentor, or youth worker that is interested but unable to afford the cost is still able to attend. To help with those situations for individuals, we have some scholarship monies available on a limited basis. Contact the church office at (937)678-9945.
Links for registration for the conference are at the bottom of this page.
Tracks
There are two tracks designed to meet the individual needs of both adults and students.
Student Track
The student track is designed for students in 7th through 12th grade, and will be held in the Life Center at Castine Church. Registration for the students will take place in the entrance of the Life Center. The student track will be led by Sanctify Ministries. Sanctify Ministries is composed of students and staff from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, who have felt a call to be involved in sharing with students about why living lives of holiness and purity is so essential in their faith and life.
Adult Track
The adult track is designed for parents, mentors, and youth workers, and will be held in Worship Center at Castine Church. Registration for the adults will take place at the side entrance (south side) of the Worship Center. The adult track will be led by Rick Schatz, President and CEO of pureHope in Cincinnati, Ohio. The mission of pureHOPE is to provide Christian solutions in a sexualized culture. Rick has been president of the organization since 2000, and has led in the management and operation of the organization since 1990. He is an elder and founding member of Evangelical Community Church in Cincinnati where he served as interim lead preacher for more than one year. He and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 42 years and have three sons and seven grandchildren. For more information about Rick Schatz, or pureHOPE, go to www.purehope.net.
Track Restrictions and Guidelines
To be able to maximize interaction with each group, a main goal of this conference is to ensure we meet each group where they are at, and discuss issues they face in an safe and open environment. Because of this, parents and mentors are not allowed to participate in any of the student sessions, and are encouraged to attend the adult session in the Castine Church worship center. Neither are students allowed to participate in the adult session, and are encouraged to attend the student sessions at Castine Church.
As much as possible, we encourage youth pastors and youth workers to attend the Adult session as well. We will make transcripts of the talks and discussions available to youth pastors, youth workers, and parents upon request so that you are well informed of the content, and can follow up with your students in appropriate ways. However, if you believe there is a need for you to be involved in the student sessions, we ask that you be a silent participant in the discussions By this, we request that you sit in the back of the sessions so as not to inhibit discussion either for your students or those from other youth groups.
Also, men are allowed only in the guys sessions, and women in the girls. In addition, if you are a volunteer or pastor who is a parent of one of the teens in the group, give serious consideration if it is in the best interest of your son or daughter for you to set in on their session.
Adults are asked to follow these expectations for the conference to ensure an atmosphere of openness for the students.
Youth workers that are interested in attending the adult sessions as well as the student sessions can do so with no additional cost. We just ask that you make the transition as seamlessly as possible so as to not detract from the session that may be in progress for either the students or adults.
The current schedules for the two groups are as follows. Please note that slight adjustments may be made to session schedules and/or focus the day of the event.
